In an online store, it is important not only to bring customers to the right page, but also to help them quickly navigate to related products, categories, and relevant sections. That is why we developed the Category SEO Tags module for PrestaShop.
The module allows you to add useful link blocks to category pages, for example “Popular searches”, and use them both for navigation and internal linking.
What the Module Does
You can create a separate SEO link block for each category and add the links you need.
For example, in the “Bar Stools” category, you can display:
-
Loft bar stools
-
White bar stools
-
Bar stools with backrests
-
High bar stools
-
Kitchen bar stools
Each phrase is a fully functional link to a selected page in your store.
This allows you to add useful thematic links without overloading the main category description.
Available Link Types
Each tag can link to one of several destination types:
-
Category — the URL is generated automatically for a selected PrestaShop category.
-
Product — link directly to a specific product page.
-
CMS page — link to an informational page, guide, or article.
-
Custom URL — use any internal or external URL.
For categories, products, and CMS pages, the module uses standard PrestaShop link generation. This means you do not need to manually update every tag if the friendly URL or store structure changes.
Category-Specific Blocks
SEO tag blocks are configured separately for each category.
For every block, you can define:
-
internal block name;
-
category;
-
title, such as “Popular searches”;
-
display position;
-
number of initially visible tags;
-
sorting order;
-
active status.
If a block contains many links, only part of them can be displayed initially, with the rest available through a “Show more” button.
This helps keep category pages clean and easy to use.
Flexible Tag Management
Each block can contain any number of tags.
For every tag, you can configure:
-
custom anchor text;
-
destination type;
-
related category, product, or CMS page;
-
custom URL;
-
sorting;
-
active status;
-
nofollow; -
opening in a new browser tab.
Tags can be reordered without manually entering sorting numbers.
The module also supports quick bulk addition of phrases. This is especially useful when an SEO specialist has prepared dozens or hundreds of search phrases for a category.
Multilingual Support
The module supports multiple PrestaShop languages.
You can configure:
-
different block titles for each language;
-
different tag texts;
-
separate custom URLs.
When linking to a category, product, or CMS page, the URL is generated according to the current store language.
Multistore Support
If PrestaShop Multistore is enabled, SEO tag blocks can be assigned to specific stores.
The same block can be used across multiple stores, or each store can have its own tag structure.
If Multistore is disabled, unnecessary store-related settings are hidden from the interface.
Where SEO Tags Are Displayed
The module supports displaying blocks at the top or bottom of category pages.
It works with standard PrestaShop hooks and also provides custom hooks for themes that require more flexible placement.
This makes it possible to adapt the module to different store layouts and custom themes.
Why These Links Are Useful for SEO
The module does not automatically generate landing pages and does not create hundreds of artificial keyword combinations.
All links are added manually and lead to existing pages in the store.
This gives the store administrator full control over internal linking.
SEO tags can help you:
-
connect related sections;
-
strengthen important internal pages with additional links;
-
provide search engines with more context about the catalog structure;
-
help customers reach more specific selections;
-
distribute internal link equity across important pages.
The links are rendered directly as standard HTML links in the page source, not generated only through JavaScript.
Better Navigation for Customers
SEO tags are useful not only for search engines.
A customer entering a broad category can quickly navigate to a more specific section.
For example:
Chairs → Bar Stools → White Bar Stools
or:
Laptops → Gaming Laptops → RTX Laptops
This makes SEO tag blocks a useful additional navigation tool, especially for large catalogs with many products and nested categories.
Performance
The module is designed for stores with large catalogs.
The Back Office includes:
-
server-side pagination;
-
category search;
-
product search;
-
CMS page search;
-
filtering;
-
AJAX status switching.
On the front office side, the module is lightweight and does not require heavy JavaScript components to render links.
Who Is This Module For?
The Category SEO Tags module is useful for stores that need to:
-
improve internal linking;
-
strengthen the SEO structure of the catalog;
-
add “Popular searches” blocks;
-
connect categories with products and information pages;
-
create additional navigation paths;
-
manage links without editing theme templates.
It is especially useful for large catalogs where the standard category tree alone is not enough for convenient navigation.
Summary
The Category SEO Tags module adds a simple and manageable internal linking tool to PrestaShop.
Instead of hardcoding links into a theme, the store administrator gets a dedicated interface where they can create a block, select a category, add relevant phrases, connect them to existing pages, and control their display directly from the PrestaShop Back Office.
It is a practical tool for SEO, navigation, and building a clearer store structure.
